Flagship Policies

General Behavior

At Flagship we aim to provide a safe, fun, and welcoming experience for all class participants. We aim to meet you where you’re at (on any given day, and in terms of your overall fitness and goals), and help you get better every day. We expect our members to treat each other with respect and kindness, and you can expect the same from our staff. There is no room for judgment or shaming of any sort on one’s physical appearance, personal beliefs, or approaches to a given workout. We want you all to have a safe space to pursue your fitness goals, and we’re here to help however we can.

Safety First

Intense workouts are a lot of fun, but we prioritize safety first. That includes your movement patterns, and our coaches aim to help you move safely before adding intensity. If you’re a beginner with us, a coach might have you do “simpler” movements or scale back volume so you can progress safely.

Safety includes everyone around you, so please be aware of your personal space and where you place the gear you use. Coaches may modify workouts to SAFELY accommodate the number of people in class. Never drop a weight if don’t know the area is clear to do so.

Safety also includes the health of everyone in the gym, so please STAY HOME if you’re feeling ill!

Dropping Weights

Dropping weight IS allowed at our gyms, but only under these rules:

  • An EMPTY barbell is fragile. NEVER EVER drop it - AT ALL. Set it down like it’s made of glass!

  • Only drop barbells from above the knees when there is 25# or more on each side (don’t drop 10s or 15s only).

  • Only drop weights when you KNOW the area around is clear, and “guide” it down so it doesn’t bounce/roll into anyone’s space.

  • Dumbbells should never be dropped from above the knees.

  • Kettlebells should never be dropped.

  • DO NOT drop weights Upstairs at the Castro location.

  • DO NOT drop ANY weights in the back half of our Mission Bay gym (there are vibration issues with our neighbors above). You can drop in the front half, and crash pads are available to use in the back half.

Gym Equipment and Cleanliness

We pride ourselves on having top notch equipment and a clean space. We want you to treat the gym with the same intention and respect you (hopefully) treat yourself! We believe in the policy of “leave it how you found it, if not better.” Please return gear to where you found it, in the state you found it. Please BRUSH AND then WIPE chalk off of barbells, and wipe chalk or sweat off ANY other gear you put it on.

Know that anything above you DON’T do yourself falls on your coaches to handle. Please respect their time, and help us provide a clean gym for everyone!

Pet Policy

We’re pet-lovers at Flagship, and we allow members to bring their pets AS LONG AS they can be left on their own out of the way of class, remain quiet, get along well with other pets and humans, AND are cleaned up after. Please keep your dog leashed unless you clear it with the coach.

Some of our members (and coaches) have pet allergies, and they deserve to be as comfortable in the space as those who don't. We also want to keep a high standard of cleanliness throughout the gyms. So if your pet sheds hair, we expect you to vacuum it before you leave. And if your pet has an “accident,” it’s your responsibility to clean it up. If your pet barks excessively, you will be asked to break from your workout to handle it.

We ask that pets be kept in the designated area at each gym, tethered to something heavy enough to keep them there. The areas at each gym are:

Castro - outside in the gated driveway area

Mission Bay - front entryway before the offices

FIDI - athlete lounge or before the TV screens

Personal Items

Please place any personal items you bring (clothing, backpacks, etc) in the cubbies or athlete lounges at each gym. Flagship is not responsible for your personal items you bring in, and we want to keep the main gym floor clear for classes and mobilizing after classes. Do not leave anything overnight (including towels), unless you purchase a plastic shoebox (one-time $10 fee, then it’s yours to keep) to keep shoes/grips/tape/deodorant/etc at the gym. What you keep at the gym should fit IN the closed shoebox.

If you leave anything behind, we keep a Lost & Found bin at each gym, which gets cleared out periodically.

Bike Policy

We recommend you lock your bike to something, even when bringing it inside the gym. Flagship is not responsible for your personal items you bring with you. At Castro, during busy class times (6-8am, noon, 3:30-6:30pm, and weekend classes), please put your bikes outside in the alley.

Open Gym

Open Gym is available at designated hours at each of our gyms (see the schedule here). At Mission Bay and FiDi, this is currently available during normal class times (as well as 9am-11am at FiDi). At Castro, Open Gym goes from 9am-11am, and 1-2:30pm on weekdays. If you’d like to do open gym during class times at Castro, you’ll need to have a regular membership or pay for a class drop-in and sign into a class - AND have a chat with the coach about what space/gear you can use.

We no longer allow the upstairs area of Castro to be used for Open Gym.

If you use ANY of our locations for Open Gym, we expect you to clean up after yourself the same as above. Classes have priority over any space and gear.

Membership Holds/Freezes

A membership freeze may only be requested for a time period starting ON or AFTER your NEXT billing date. For example:

  • My membership renews on 10/15

  • I can request a freeze that starts on 10/15 or later

  • I CANNOT request a freeze that starts BEFORE 10/15

Once your freeze is requested, you can still attend up to (but not including) the first day of the freeze. You can start attending again ON the end date of the freeze (the "un-freeze" date).

The freeze will move your bill date that comes AFTER the freeze (moving the # of days of the freeze). Using the example above:

  • If I request a freeze from 10/20-10/30 (10 days), I will still pay my normal membership price on 10/15. My FOLLOWING bill date (and all subsequent bill dates) will be moved 10 days later. So instead of next paying on 11/12, I would pay on 11/22.

  • If I request a freeze from 11/20-11/30, I would be billed on 10/15, 11/12 (4 weeks later), and the following bill date of 12/10 would push to 12/20.

  • If I request a freeze from 10/15-10/25, I would NOT be billed on 10/15 but instead on 10/25.

Pay-Up-Front Memberships

Members with pay-up-front memberships can put a cumulative hold of up to 1 month with a $150 fee per hold. These members can request a freeze for any future time during their membership period.
